2025 Eyewitness to History Contest
We read about history all the time. But chances are, someone you know has experienced it. Maybe they have lived through a pandemic, faced war firsthand, or marched for their rights. Whatever it is, we want you to help tell that story!
PrizeWe will award the winning interview $250 and publish it in Junior Scholastic. That student’s teacher will also get $250. Two runner-up entries will each get $50.

Voting Age Essay Contest
Underline or highlight two arguments for and against lowering the voting age to 16. Then decide: Should the voting age be lowered? Write a short essay explaining your answer. Use evidence from the article and additional research to support your claim. Three winners will each get a JS notebook!

DIRECTIONS: To enter, interview someone who experienced a historic event in person. Then send us the interview in Q&A form. It can be written (700 to 900 words) or an audio recording (5 to 7 minutes).
We will award the winning interview $250 and publish it in Junior Scholastic. That student’s teacher will also get $250. Two runner-up entries will each get $50. Good luck!

Junior Scholastic is packed with contests to get your students excited about writing and research. And they can win awesome prizes! On this page find information about our current contests, including entry forms and deadlines.
At this time we are only accepting entries to the monthly contests by email. Entries must be written by a student in grades 4-12. All entries must be submitted by a teacher, parent, or legal guardian of the student. Entries submitted by someone under 18 will be deleted and disqualified.
