Kaylee Xi
This year’s Can You Find Mapman®? contest challenged readers to figure out Mapman’s destination—Ireland—and create a map of that country, showing off its geography and culture.
We received more than 1,400 entries from 31 states. The grand prize winner is Kaylee Xi, 12, who attends the Independence School in Newark, Delaware. “I’d love to travel to Ireland,” she says, “because after researching about it, I think it has a fascinating culture.”
Kaylee won for her entry’s stunning design. Her map is bordered by Ireland’s national flag and local wildlife—a puffin, badger, hare, and deer. It also features dramatic landscapes like the Cliffs of Moher (left side) and famous landmarks like Blarney Castle (bottom center). Shamrocks—a symbol of Ireland—dot the edges. An Irish frame drum and harp, both traditional instruments, appear on the bottom right.
Congratulations to Kaylee and her teacher, Tina Palmer. They will each receive $250. Kaylee and the runners-up will each get a Mapman T-shirt. Mapman will soon head off to a new destination. Look for this contest again next school year!
