She Found Mapman!

Our Can You Find Mapman®? contest from December 2023 challenged readers to figure out Mapman’s destination—Portugal—and create a map of that southern European nation.

We received more than 1,500 entries from 33 states. Silvi Dun Emami-Greifendorf, 14, is the grand-prize winner. She attends Rangeley Lakes Regional School in Rangeley, Maine. Silvi won for her entry’s detailed design. “I learned so much researching Portugal,” she says. “But the cool part was putting it all together to tell a story.” 

Silvi’s entry (above) brings the country’s past and present to life, from an explorer’s ship flying the national flag to the waterfront capital of Lisbon. Her map also highlights famous landmarks, including Benagil Cave and Pena Palace, one of many castles in Portugal.  

Congratulations to Silvi and her teacher, Kelsey Orestis. They will each receive $250. The runners-up will each get a Mapman T-shirt. Mapman will soon head off to a new location. Look for this contest again next school year!
