Orla-Niamh Wray

Our Can You Find Mapman®? contest from December 2021 challenged readers to figure out Mapman’s mystery destination—the geyser Old Faithful—then create a map of the iconic site where the spring is located: Yellowstone National Park.

We received about 2,200 entries from 32 states. The grand-prize winner is Orla-Niamh Wray, 14, of the Nardin Academy in Buffalo, New York.

Orla won for her map’s clever design. “I’m over the moon that I won,” she says. “I took the time to educate myself about the animals and activities that Yellowstone National Park has to offer.”

Orla’s entry (above) celebrates Yellowstone’s wildlife, terrain, and history. It includes a ranger’s hat hanging on a map of the park. A souvenir license plate marks the year Yellowstone was established as the nation’s first national park, while a bear, an elk, and a bison surround a firepit and a colorful hot spring.

Congratulations to Orla and her eighth-grade teacher, Nicole Beahan. They will each receive $250. The 25 runners-up will each get a Mapman T-shirt. Mapman will soon head off to a new mystery location. Look for our contest next year!
