In case you missed it, Merriam-Webster has added 370 words to its dictionary—including ICYMI, the acronym for “in case you missed it”!

The fall 2022 update also put in the nouns plushie (a stuffed toy), hoglet (a baby hedgehog), and cootie catcher (a child’s toy made of paper folded into four pyramid-shaped parts with flaps that can open and close).

The adjectives janky (of poor quality), sus (suspicious), and adorkable (quirky in an endearing way) also made the cut. So did the adjective cringe (very embarrassing, as in your parents dancing in public).

The Merriam-Webster dictionary has been evolving since it was first published in 1847. “Our job is to capture language as it is used,” says editor Peter Sokolowski.
