Research suggests that snapping a lot of pics hurts our ability to hold on to a memory of an event. “[People] know their camera is capturing that moment for them, so they don’t pay full attention to it,” Linda Henkel, a psychologist at Fairfield University, told NPR. Her advice? First think about what you would like to recall about a moment you are witnessing, she says. Take your shot—then put down your phone.
