NEWS ALERT!
The Dictionary’s K-Update
South Korean culture has been making its mark around the world through music, food, TV shows, and movies for years. Now it has even inspired new additions to the Oxford English Dictionary.
Publishers recently added 26 Korean-inspired terms to the reference book, which is widely considered the authority on the English language. The additions include kimbap (a rice and seaweed dish), manhwa (a Korean genre of comic books), and hanbok (a traditional Korean costume). One of the words even describes the trend itself—hallyu refers to a rise in international interest in South Korea and its culture.
