Take Your Best Shot!

Confirming a justice to Supreme Court of the United States (often abbreviated as SCOTUS) is usually a hard-fought contest. This will certainly be true when the Senate votes on President Donald Trump’s latest nominee to the Court, Brett Kavanaugh (see "Supreme Showdown")

Senate Democrats will do everything they can to delay the confirmation vote until after the midterm elections in November. Experts say that will likely be impossible with Republicans holding the majority in the Senate.

This cartoon comments on that situation. It uses a donkey—a symbol of the Democratic Party—and soccer imagery to make its point. Study the cartoon, then answer the questions.

1. What three groups or individuals are represented in this cartoon?

2. What action, not depicted here, is expected to happen next?

3. What is significant about the size of the goal and the goalie?

4. What point do you think the cartoon is making?
