Meet the Robot Cop
A police department in the Middle East has a new member on the force. The world’s first robot police officer recently hit the streets of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. The humanlike machine moves using motion sensors, similar to the way a driverless car works. It can’t make arrests, but it can scan people’s faces and compare them to a police database using facial recognition software. If the robot spots any wanted criminals, it alerts authorities. Officials in Dubai hope that robots will form up to 25 percent of the city’s police force by 2030.
